Information for voters
How do I vote? 

Graduate students at the University of Melbourne will be automatically sent an email with a unique link with instructions on how to vote. If you do not receive your email during the voting period, please contact the Returning Officer. 

If you do not receive an email with your voting link, please email Stephen Luntz at sluntz@abovequota.com.au 

When can I vote? 
  • Voting Opens: Monday, 7 April 2025, at 9:00 AM
  • Voting Closes: Thursday, 17 April 2025, at 5:00 PM

I have a query or complaint about the election. Who can I talk to? 

To enquire or make a complaint about the election, contact the Returning Officer by email. The Returning Officer for 2025 GSA Elections is:

The Returning Officer will be available on campus in the 1888 building on the following days:

  • Friday, 21 March (1 PM – 5 PM)
  • Friday, 4 April (1 PM – 3 PM)
  • Monday, 7 April (1 PM – 5 PM)
  • Wednesday, 9 April (1 PM – 5 PM)
  • Friday, 11 April (1 PM – 5 PM)
  • Monday, 14 April (1 PM – 5 PM)
  • Wednesday, 16 April (1 PM – 5 PM)

What does a Returning Officer do? 

The Returning Officer: 

  • is responsible for the conduct of each election 
  • may decide all matters not provided for in the Constitution or the Electoral Regulations
  • and is answerable only to the Electoral Tribunal 

The Returning Officer must decide questions of fact on the balance of probabilities. 

Any decision of the Returning Officer may be appealed to the Electoral Tribunal in accordance with rule 13.8 of the Constitution. 

UMGSA will provide the facilities, resources and assistance necessary to enable the Returning Officer to carry out the responsibilities as set out in the Electoral Regulations. 

Other information 

GSA elections must be held pursuant to the Electoral Regulations; and regulated by the Electoral Tribunal.
