Will McHenry Education (Coursework) Officer
(he/him)
A good representative is someone who understands both sides of the story. Someone who acknowledges the people and also the faculty. Being a student for the past 4 years, I have seen my fair share of educational inequities including non-contactable boards, mental health disregard and patronising attitudes. Luckily, with roles spanning from class representative to committee member, I have learnt about genuinely advocating for the student body. This is something that requires strong social connection to the people with the understanding needed to listen and fuel advocation for the future. I have also approached representation from the other side. Through being a leadership captain and university tutor for head academic companies, I’ve seen the considerations and analysis made regarding decisions for the best interest of current and future cohorts. Having these supportive traits and a desire to balance both sides of the discussion are important fundamentals I’ve observed through differing degrees and universities. As education officer, I will strive to echo the student voice with compassion and motivation while also engaging in diplomatic discussion with faculty heads. I truly believe this will ensure successful outcomes where both sides are happy, so that we can better the university together, as one.
