An update from the GSA President: November 6th, 2024
Dear Graduate Students,
As we get close to the end of the academic year, I know it can feel a bit overwhelming. Just a reminder that you’re not alone! I encourage you to lean on your friends, family, and the support services the University provides, such as Academic Skills and CAPS.
You may have heard about the new government bill proposing limits on the number of international students universities can enroll. GSA is firmly against this change and we want to reassure you that it won’t affect international students already studying here. You may read our full statement here.
We’re also pleased to be moving forward with our Reconciliation process, a long-overdue and essential part of our work at GSA.
On another note, we’ve been hard at work on our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, set to launch early next year. This plan will shape our events and programs over the next five years. We’re also making great progress on the Grad Group Policy, which will support Grad Group leaders in providing exceptional leadership, and ensure that members of our 170+ affiliated Grad Groups have the best graduate experience possible.
Finally, the annual GSA Ball is happening next week! I’m looking forward to meeting you there and celebrating the end of the year together.
For those of you still tackling exams and final assignments, good luck, you’ve got this!
If you have any questions or just want to chat, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at president@gsa.unimelb.edu.au.
Yours sincerely,
Ethan Chou
