An update from the GSA President: May 12th 2025
Dear Graduate Students,
I hope you’ve been doing well and had a chance to spend time outdoors and enjoy the autumn leaves. We’re almost at the finish line of semester one, just a little further to go!
Over the past few weeks, our Faculty and Representative Councilors have been wrapping up their projects and hosting their final events before their terms officially end later this month. It’s been a big effort, and we’re grateful for their work over the past year. We’ll be announcing the newly elected student leaders at our Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 29 May. We’d love to see you there.
I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who participated in the GSA’s protest rule consultation, whether through our in-person town hall, online survey, or email submissions. Your input means a lot. We’re now compiling all the responses and will present them to the University soon, continuing to advocate on your behalf.
If you’re a PhD student, don’t forget that applications for our PhD mentoring program are still open! The research journey can sometimes feel a little isolating, especially when you’re starting at a different time to everyone else or juggling a lot on your own. This is a great opportunity for you to meet other PhDs and build meaningful connections within your faculty as you navigate through your research journey. You may find more info here. We welcome both mentors and mentees to apply.
Lastly, as my tenure as President reaches its one-year mark, I want to express what a privilege it has been to serve our graduate student community. If you’re reading this and made it to the end of this message, thank you. I hope you’ve felt the support, connection, and care that GSA is here to provide, just as I once needed when I first started out as a new grad student.
Yours sincerely,
Ethan Chou
