An update from the GSA President: February 2025
Dear Graduate Students,
On behalf of all elected student representatives and staff at GSA, I would like to officially welcome you to a new semester!
I hope you had a restful break and were able to spend time with friends and family. I certainly did, spending a couple of weeks in Taiwan with my loved ones and immersing myself in the island’s stunning mountainous ranges.
As we begin this new semester, I’d like to invite you to our O-Week events across the Parkville, Southbank, Werribee, and Burnley campuses. These events are a great opportunity to meet fellow graduate students from across the university, raise concerns to our elected representatives, and gain a better understanding of the support that we, and the university provide for you, the graduate students.
We’re also keen to hear about your public transport experience as a graduate student in Victoria. Since 2015, GSA has been working with the Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations (CAPA) on the Fares Fair PTV campaign to advocate for graduate student concessions.
The project is ongoing, and we encourage you to reflect on how public transport costs affect your daily experience. Is it limiting your opportunities to travel? Is it negatively impacting other aspects of your life? We want to hear from you!
If you have any questions or just want to chat, don’t hesitate to visit my office or reach out to me at president@gsa.unimelb.edu.au
Looking forward to meeting you soon at the Summer Soirée and I wish you a fulfilling semester ahead.
