Mevuni Sathma Wanigasooriya

  • Board Member Nominee
Hi, my name is Mev and I’m a first-year Juris Doctor student at Melbourne Law School. I currently serve on the GSA Board and would be honoured to represent you next term simply because, I understand. I know firsthand the challenges of balancing study, work, and life. Last year, I completed 12 subjects to finish my undergraduate degree while working, managing personal commitments, and navigating physical and mental health struggles. I’ve felt the stress, the exhaustion, and the pressure firsthand.

After that demanding year, I made a conscious decision to use my graduate studies as a platform to improve student experiences. I want to push for real, tangible support for graduate students, whether through mental health resources, academic flexibility, or better funding opportunities.

Beyond my studies, I bring two years of experience as a bookkeeper for a women’s empowerment non-profit, along with corporate banking and policy expertise. These roles have sharpened my ability to advocate for practical solutions and effective change.
At Melbourne University, I believe we should not simply survive- we should thrive. There is so much we can do to enhance university life, and I am here to listen and work toward the changes that matter to you.
