African Health and Wellbeing Club (AHWC)
Africa Health and Wellbeing Student Club is a student-led club dedicated to providing a safe space for students to engage in activities that promote health and well-being among African students at the University of Melbourne. This mission will be accomplished through workshops, fitness programs, mental health awareness programs, peer support networks, African drumming and many more.
It collaborates with student groups at the University of Melbourne and African community leaders to find resources and support for students especially those who struggle with mental stress associated with acculturation and living far away from home. The group would also create a peer and mentor buddy system for students to easily reach out to peers and mentors from the university and community. This system would provide additional academic support, reduce feelings of isolation by fostering friendships, ensure an easier transition for new students, and foster a sense of community and belonging among students.
