Crossing Borders Monash & Melbourne University presents: REFUGEE MENTAL HEALTH AND THE VOICES OF RESISTANCE

Refugees and asylum seekers face, in the form of the Australian immigration system, extremely difficult and often devastating challenges to health and mental health. What shapes can resistance take? This year, the Crossing Borders Monash X Unimelb Refugee Health Symposium explores this vital question with a day of learning and discussion.

We will hear from three speakers about experiences in immigration detention, the ongoing fight for stability and permanent protection, affective empathy and its role in carrying out work in the refugee space, attempting to be with people in their stories of pain, and supporting young people seeking asylum in Australia. Ask the speakers your burning questions and in the afternoon join an interactive workshop session. Open to all students of healthcare and junior medical staff hoping to work in the refugee space and advocate for and enact change.

Join us on AUGUST 20 2023 at the GRYPHON GALLERY, UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE GSA for a deep dive into what needs to change for refugees and people seeking asylum!
