Policy Statement – Board

Hello all!

As a candidate for the GSA Board, I want to continue my commitment to fostering inclusivity, timely student-focused advocacy, and a strong sense of community. Throughout my law degree, I have developed a strong understanding of governance and the critical role of associations like the GSA in student advocacy.

My priorities include strengthening the support structures for diverse student needs and collaborating with the Representative Council and Faculty Council to continue enhancing portfolio-specific advocacy for Disability and Equity, International students, First Nations students, and Women’s and LGBTQIA+ cohorts. I will propose and integrate policies that promote academic success, better well-being and mental health initiatives, and improved accessibility across the university (both on campus and online).

Using the experience I have gained from my previous role as Disability and Equity Officer at the GSA and leveraging my passion for advocacy and student engagement, I aim to create substantial opportunities for graduate students to become more involved in the GSA, advocacy for change, and engagement with our events. Together, I plan to build a fiercer, more socially connected, and empowered graduate community!

Policy Statement – Disability and Equity Officer

Hello all!

I am also applying for the Disability and Equity Officer position – if the Board nomination is tightly contested – to ensure continuity in my work. All graduate students have equitable access to education and campus life, and there is a better implementation of the University’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan. I am passionate about informing and providing students about the Disability Standards for Education, Disability Rights Law, and anti-discrimination laws. However, complaints and legal pathways are often burdensome, so it is still imperative that there is knowledge about the protections for students with disabilities.

To address Intersectionality, I will work closely with portfolios such as the Women’s, Queer, First Nations, and International Officer to ensure that the interconnected nature of social categories and experiences are genuinely reflected in advocacy, support services and engagement within the GSA.

I will further advocate for improved accessibility, continue the Student Disability Forum, implement the Sunflower Lanyard Membership with the GSA and provide consistent social coffee/meal events and other positive disability-specific events that celebrate these lived experiences.

Let’s work together for fiercely strong and unapologetically prideful disability initiatives and spaces in the university experience!
