This flagship interdepartmental academic competition is open to all STEM cohorts, with a strong emphasis on medical students across all University of Melbourne clinical schools. 2025 Theme: This year’s competition invites participants to critically explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping surgery. Each team will research a surgical problem, delve into the relevant anatomy and procedure, and consider innovations that could make surgery more sustainable. From there, teams will develop a research question, review the evidence, and present their findings in the form of a scientific poster. On the night, each group will deliver a 3-minute presentation, followed by 1 minute of questioning from the judging panel. Judging Panel: Dr Helen Mohan – Colorectal Surgeon Dr Justin Yeung – Colorectal Surgeon Dr Tom Edwards – Vitreoretinal Surgeon Dr Krinal Mori – General Surgeon In keeping with previous years, the competition is open to both medical students and STEM students, fostering collaboration that mirrors the multidisciplinary teams central to modern healthcare. This broader participation reflects the intersection of technology, science, and anatomy that defines AI in medicine. To make things even more exciting, the Top 3 posters, as determined by our panel, will receive cash prizes. |
