Chase the Moon with GSA! 🌕✨
Originating from Moon worship, the Mid-Autumn (Moon) Festival was first coined in “Rites of Zhou” (2nd century BC). Celebrations became common in the Han Dynasty (202 BC – AD 220) and remained popular after the Song Dynasty (960 – 1279). It is also celebrated across East Asia.
Let’s celebrate this celestial festival, no matter where we are. As Zhang Jiuling (673 – 740 AD) famously wrote:
“As the Moon ascends from the surface of the sea,
World apart, yet we share this scenery.”
🌅“海上升明月,天涯共此时”🌅
Traditions include appreciating the Moon, eating mooncakes, reuniting with family and friends, celebrating the harvest, and giving gifts. The rich historic context and regional diversity also led to many more ways of celebrating.
This year, we are celebrating a day later than the actual date of the Festival (15th of the eighth month on the Chinese lunisolar calendar, which is 6th October), so let’s chase the Moon together like we chase our dreams, with an evening full of cultural performances, delicious mooncakes, and fun games. We encourage you to wear traditional attire to add to the festive atmosphere. It’s the perfect opportunity to connect with friends, enjoy the culture, and create lasting memories.
