Statement from the GSA LGBTIQ Officer

The LGBTIQA+ student and staff community, Pride Network and GSA elected representatives ensure that the University champions its commitment to eradicating any voices that permit the exclusion of minority groups, as sanctioned by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

“I am particularly hopeful of the University’s recently released and cutting-edge draft Gender Affirmation Policy,” said Rick Spencer, GSA LGBTIQ Officer.

“It is now important that our lived voices of transphobia are heard. As a collective group of students who have experienced marginalisation, we must be given the opportunity to refine the policy and ensure it is put into practice so that every class will be protected from transphobia.”

The GSA LGBTIQ Officer will always fight for a university community that champions respect, inclusion and diversity for our LGBTIQ community at the University of Melbourne.
