Become a barista with GSA!

Due to a high volume of applications, we are no longer accepting applicants for the Barista Course. Thanks for your interest and stay tuned for more events and programs from GSA.

GSA is providing a subsidised coffee making course to graduate students to help them in their journey to find part-time/casual work.

The Fundamentals Coffee course with Barista Masterclass is for individuals with no prior barista/coffee-making experience. The four-hour course is guided by an instructor that has years of experience, teaching multiple barista courses across Melbourne and has 10+ years of experience working as a barista.

The actual course fee is $118, but for graduate students, it is subsidised by GSA so students will only have to pay $40 out of pocket.

The course will take place in a location in North Melbourne. Students will meet with a GSA Staff at the 1888 Building and head to the North Melbourne location together using public transport. Students are required to bring their own Myki cards.

If you’re interested to take part in this course, read on for more details and complete the ‘Expressions of Interest’ form.

Please note that places for the course is limited and not everyone who applies is guaranteed a place.

Students can cancel their booking provided they give us at least 48 hours notice. Cancellations are to be made in writing to events@gsa.unimelb.edu.au

If the cancellation request was made at least 48 hours prior to the event, the third-party company running the Coffee Course will be informed by GSA to release the refund to the student.

Students who cancel their booking  after the 48-hour requirement will not be refunded their $40 payment.

In the event of a no-show by the student, no refund will be provided.

We are hoping to have more training sessions again next semester depending on the success of this program this semester.

We do not place students in a job after this training or guarantee that students will be able to get a job as a Barista upon completion of this training. Students will be provided with tips on how to find a Barista job during the training program. Ultimately, it is up to the student to look for a Barista job and apply for one.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the program and the fact that we will not be able to fill your spot at such short notice, cancellations within 48 hours of the event will not be refunded.
