Sathiyamoorthy Mathushan is currently pursuing his PhD in Computational Chemistry at the University of Melbourne, situating him directly within the Faculty of Science graduate community he aims to represent. Bringing a solid foundation with a first-class Bachelor of Honors degree in Chemistry from the University of Jaffna, Mathushan understands the unique academic landscape and challenges faced by science students.

As a dedicated Faculty Council Member for the GSA, he is deeply committed to advocating for the interests and enhancing the experience of graduate students within the Faculty of Science. His prior experience, including serving as an Assistant Lecturer and Demonstrator, has provided him with valuable insights into the student-faculty dynamic and strengthened his communication and organizational skills. Furthermore, his leadership as President of the Chemical Society at the University of Jaffna demonstrates a proactive approach to student advocacy and community building within a science discipline.

He is inspired by the GSA’s values of service and teamwork and dedicated to fostering a supportive environment. Mathushan is passionate about improving communication channels and ensuring the voices of science graduate students are effectively heard by the GSA and university administration. He is eager to leverage his background and skills to contribute meaningfully to initiatives that address the specific needs of the science faculty, aiming to make a positive and tangible impact on his peers at the University of Melbourne
