Madeleine Charisis

Women’s Officer

women@gsa.unimelb.edu.au

My name is Madeleine (she/her), and I’m a Master of Teaching (Secondary) student, running with Together alongside my experienced and passionate colleagues for Women’s Officer. I’ve served as the Education Officer for the Graduate Education Society, supporting student representatives and running our 2020 Graduate Teacher Conference. I’m also a representative on the Academic Programs Committee, where I’m proud to elevate student voices to the Chancellery regarding graduate courses, subjects and assessments. I would be proud to represent and support women and female-identifying graduate students as a feminist and friend. I’m concerned with ensuring that all university spaces are safe and welcoming for women, trans and non-binary folk and allies, that intersectional perspectives are elevated in university governance and academia, and that opportunities for women to network and participate across the university community are plentiful. If elected, I vow to listen, respect and take action on behalf of all graduate students where there is injustice or disparity. Regardless of student identity or course, we all deserve a safe, respectful and well-resourced learning environment which openly addresses the diverse needs of all. Vote 1 for Madeleine Charisis for Women’s Officer and Vote 1 Together: Progressive. Inclusive. Accountable.

Whilst there are so amazing memories from the Women's Health Day, work on our Respect campaigns to International Women's Day: this memory from our campaign to change GSA's constitution is a favourite with which I wish to say goodbye!I warmly welcome our new women's officer who will introduce herself soon and wish her all the best for her time as an office bearer!!All the best to everyone during their exams and have a safe holidays! ... Even though we did not pass our amended Constitution at the recent SGM, the meeting was a success! It is absolutely apparent that this council is comprised of exceptionally dedicated and professional students and extraordinarly patient and diligent staff! We connected with so many different faculties and had such passionate engagement from over 100 students! It has been a privilege working with this council and staff and I sincerely hope councils in the future continue with the same vigor and determination as this one, for the betterment of GSA and the UoM graduates. ...
