Hanan Sahmoud Law
(she/her)
Salam! I’m Hanan, a legal researcher, human rights advocate, and enthusiastic student of all things law and social justice. I’m currently pursuing my second master’s degree in Law and Development at the University of Melbourne, where I’m diving deep into ideas around human rights, equity, and sustainable development.
Before this, I spent seven years as a legal researcher in Occupied Palestine, focusing on policies aimed at creating fairer systems and uplifting the community. I’m also volunteering with Amnesty International Australia, where I advocate for the rights of Indigenous peoples and others often excluded from critical conversations.
As your Faculty Council representative, I’m here to listen, advocate, and help create spaces where graduate students feel supported and empowered to succeed. When I’m not immersed in legal studies, I enjoy exploring the politics of language and soaking up Melbourne’s vibrant cultural diversity.
