Hey, I’m Lakvin Fernando (he/him, M. Biomedical Science student) and Health and Welfare Officer.

The GSA has been an important part of my student experience. The programs run by the GSA have helped me grow my network and skills, enhanced my university experience through their social and extra-curricular activities, and stood by me when things haven’t gone to plan. I first got involved with the GSA through the Faculty Council, where I advocated for more engagement with graduate students from MDHS. In the coming months, keeping our campuses and placements safe and accessible to all students, and dealing with the aftermath of the pandemic should be a priority.

As Health and Welfare Officer, I will advocate on behalf of graduate students to achieve a smooth return to study. Through the Representative Council I will continue to advocate for better funding of our grad groups, which are the soul of graduate student life.
