Janani Viswanathan

  • Representative Council: Health and Wellfare Officer Nominee
Hey Everyone! I’m Janani, a true Sydneysider at heart, currently pursuing a Doctor of Optometry at the University of Melbourne.

As a graduate student, I can personally relate to the gruelling pressures of academia and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, recognising the profound impact these challenges can have on both personal health and well-being.
It is my hope as the Health and Welfare Officer to bring about meaningful change, so that students feel empowered to prioritise their wellbeing and have access to the support they need. With extensive past experience in student advocacy and leadership, especially with a background in healthcare, I am committed to improving overall graduate student connectedness, fostering a supportive and inclusive community, improving campus safety and advocating for increased access to essential resources that support both mental and physical health.

I am excited about the opportunity to represent the graduate student cohort in the role and hope to work together with the GSA team to create a more inclusive, well supported and uplifting student community to ensure each and every student feels heard and valued.
