GSA Special General Meeting (SGM)
GSA will be holding a Special General Meeting (SGM) on the 26th of November at 4pm, to consider the following changes to the GSA constitution.
“That the current Constitution of the Association be revoked in its entirety and replaced with a new Constitution as attached to this Notice and marked Annexure A.”
Please refer to the information below for the proposed resolution to the constitution.
Memo for SGM
Major Constitutional change was approved on 5 June 2020 by the Association’s membership. Following this, the Electoral Regulations Working Group was established. The Working Group identified two changes to be made in the Constitution, which are critical to ensure alignment with the Constitution’s intention.
The identified changes to the Constitution of the Association that was approved on 5 June 2020 are the following:
- Inclusion of a sentence in Clause 9.8
GSA Board will also determine annually the restrictions on voting in elections for the Representative Councillor’s representing particular constituencies, as determined rule 9.7 b
- Changes to the Clause 9.9 to clarify the term of office for Representative Council is one year
- Representative Councillors elected pursuant to rule 12.2 hold office for the period:
- commencing at the conclusion of the annual general meeting following their election; and
(ii) expiring at the conclusion of the second annual general meeting following their election, unless a casual vacancy arises pursuant to rule 9.10
Given the holistic nature of the Constitution, we have requested the membership to accept Constitutional replacement in its totality. The SGM’s Special Resolution will therefore be “That the current Constitution of the Association be revoked in its entirety and replaced with a new Constitution as attached to this Notice and marked Annexure A.”
