With the start of a new year and a new decade, I want to share some important news with you.

This year GSA is moving to a temporary home in the Doug McDonell Building, right by the level 3 entrance to the ERC.

We’re moving because the University is investing over $6 million to fully renovate and refurbish the 1888 Building, so that GSA and graduate students will have a dedicated home in the New Student Precinct from 2021 onward.

While there will be some disruption as part of the move, I’m really excited by what it means for GSA and graduate students – once the refurbishment is complete, the 1888 Building will be a modern and accessible building that provides top-quality spaces for graduate students to study and relax.

There will be some reduction to the spaces we have available for graduate students while we’re in the Doug Mac, but we’re working with the University to find other spaces that you can use.

We will still have a family study space for graduate student parents and tenured study spaces for graduate students who need a long-term place to study.

Our new space will also have an open graduate student lounge with lockers, and an expanded Reception desk for you to drop in and ask questions or chat.

We’ll be sharing more information over coming weeks, but in the meantime if you have any questions about the move, please don’t hesitate to get in touch on info@gsa.unimelb.edu.au

On behalf of GSA, I hope your 2020 is successful and enjoyable, and I hope to see you at GSA events through the year.

All the best,
Emily Roberts – GSA President
