An Expert Explains:

The International Student Issue

“If they’re not in a position to support themselves, then there is the alternative for them to return to their home countries.”

Those are the words of Prime Minister Scott Morrison at a press conference on Friday 3 April.

Hear how GSA & the Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations (CAPA) are representing international graduate students. GSA’s special guest Errol Phuah (CAPA’s Policy and Research Advisor) joined us to discuss our shared response to the recent comments from the Australian Government that international students should return to their home countries.

About our guest: Errol Phuah, CAPA Policy and Research Advisor

“Hi everyone, I’m Errol! I’m a Bioengineering PhD student from Swinburne University of Technology and the Policy and Research Advisor at CAPA for 2020.

I was the HDR representative in SSU in 2019, and the current president of the Swinburne Postgraduate Research Association – a club focused on supporting research students at Swinburne. I’m really excited to take the next step in student representation this year; and it’s an honour and a privilege to continue the proud tradition of representing postgraduate students nationally.”
