Become a barista with GSA!

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FORM NOW CLOSED

GSA is providing a subsidised coffee making course to graduate students to help them in their journey to find part-time/casual work.

The Fundamentals Coffee course with Barista Masterclass is for individuals with no prior barista/coffee-making experience. The four-hour course is guided by an instructor that has many years of experience, teaching multiple barista courses across Melbourne and has 10+ years of experience working as a barista.

The actual course fee is $118, but for graduate students, it is subsidised by GSA so students will only have to pay $40 out of pocket.

**THIS COURSE IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO CURRENTLY ENROLLED POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE.
If you are NOT an enrolled postgraduate student, please DO NOT purchase the course as we will NOT refund the course fees to you. GSA will be requiring proof of postgraduate enrolment for anyone not currently in our membership database.**

The course will take place in a location in North Melbourne. Students will meet with a GSA Staff at the 1888 Building and head to the North Melbourne location together using public transport. Students are required to bring their own Myki cards.

If you’re interested to take part in this course, read on for more details and fill out the Expression of Interest Form below.

FAQ

Barista Masterclass uses La Marzocco espresso machines and Mazzer grinders which are the highest regarded standard for barista equipment.

Yes. Barista Masterclass will email you a soft copy of your Certificate of Completion within 2 working days of your course completion. As our courses are on Saturdays, you can expect your certificates by 5pm, next Tuesday.

Please note that this Certificate of Completion is NOT a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

We do not place students in a job after this training or guarantee that students will be able to get a job as a Barista upon completion of this training. Students will be provided with tips on how to find a Barista job during the training program. Ultimately, it is up to the student to search for and apply for a Barista/Cafe all-rounder job.

Students can cancel their booking provided they give us at least 72 hours’ notice. Cancellations are to be made in writing to events@gsa.unimelb.edu.au

If the cancellation request was made at least 72 hours prior to the event, the third-party company running the Coffee Course will be informed by GSA to release the refund to the student.

Students who cancel their booking after the 72 hours requirement has passed will NOT be refunded their $40 payment.

In the event of a no-show by the student, no refund will be provided.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the program and the fact that we will not be able to fill your spot at such short notice, cancellations within 72 hours of the event will not be refunded.

Strictly no. The links are not to be shared with anyone else – it is only for you to use to purchase a seat for yourself in the Barista course. Failure to comply with this condition will mean that you and your friend will be barred from attending the course, and both your tickets will be cancelled with NO refunds.
