GSA is inviting graduate students to share their views on new University protest rules that may impact freedom of expression and the right to peacefully protest.
The University of Melbourne has recently introduced new rules that limit how and where protests can take place on campus. These rules, issued under the Vice-Chancellor Regulation, apply to any form of protest activity, including demonstrations, rallies, sit-ins, occupations, and even individual acts of protest.
The University says the new rules are intended to “balance the rights of all members of the University community.” However, some groups within the University have raised concerns about the impact these rules could have on students’ and staff’s rights to peaceful protest and freedom of expression.
GSA is seeking feedback from graduate students so we can respond to these changes in a way that reflects your views and values.
We’re conducting a short survey to better understand how graduate students feel about the new protest rules. Whether you’re concerned, supportive, unsure, or somewhere in between, your voice matters.
The survey closing date has been extended and will now close 9am, Monday May 12th.
Note: all responses to the survey are anonymous. Any identifying information you provide will be de-identified.
