About this event

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to this exciting showcase of talent by two artists from the LGBTIQ+ community. Both artists will highlight aspects of their work, influences and gender expressions of the self in creative spaces.

Dr Asiel Adan Sanchez is a non-binary doctor, writer and advocate. They work as a general practitioner in Melbourne’s inner north, with a special interest in HIV medicine, gender-affirming care and mental health. Outside of their clinical roles, Asiel is an academic at The University of Melbourne, where their work in medical education has been recognised through a Staff Excellence Award in Diversity and Inclusion from the Faculty of Medicine. They frequently lecture on LGBTQIA+ health, transgender health, and safe and inclusive practice.

Sam Elkin (He/Him) is a writer and radio maker living in the western suburbs of Naarm. In 2020 Sam was a Wheeler Centre Next Chapter Fellow and his essays have been published in the Griffith Review, Kill Your Darlings and Overland. Sam has produced the podcasts Transgender Warriors, Queer View Mirror. Sam is a cofounder of the Spilling the T Collective Writers’ group, and he is currently working on a debut memoir.
