GSA Grad Orientation 2021

To welcome new students to Semester 1, GSA is hosting 2 consecutive days of online events, performances and giveaways.

You’ll get the chance to meet some of your student representatives and learn more about GSA and how we advocate for you and student issues.

Apart from that, you will get to know all the programs and offerings GSA provides throughout the year as well as the opportunities for you to get involved in.

There are also social events like Speed Friending, Trivia and Live Music Performance, and Grad Group Expo for you to meet new friends and find your tribe!

Prizes, food and drinks are waiting for you in all sessions. Most events will be held in Hopin. Full schedule and details coming soon.

GSA Grad Orientation Schedule

Every semester, GSA welcomes all new and returning graduate students with a series of orientation events and fun activities 

This year, GSA is hosting 2 consecutive days of online events, performances and giveaways via Hopin (an online/virtual event platform) with a small session to be held on campus depending on restrictions at the time. 

You’ll get the chance to meet some of your student representatives and learn more about GSA’s offerings and services for you as a graduate student! Here’s some more details about what is on

Wednesday 3rd March 2021

10am – 11.30am: GSA Beginner’s Guide

Get to know GSA thoroughly! A good chance to meet some of your student representatives and learn more about GSA offerings, and how we advocate for you and student issues.

You will be able to meet GSA’s teams: Policy and Advocacy, Grad Groups, Student Engagement and Training and Development

12pm – 1pm: GSA Achieve – Gender Diversity

Want to develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be gender diverse? Join us for what will be an informative session!

We’re joined by ygender, a peer led social support and advocacy group for trans/gender diverse young people.

Topics covered:
• Respectful language and terminology
• Trans identity and experiences
• Practical examples of inclusive practices
• Question time.

1.30pm – 2.15pm: Seb Szabo (Live music performance)

On Wednesday afternoon, we will be serenaded with a live performance from Seb Szabo!

A gifted lyricist and charismatic performer, Seb Szabo’s unique brand of big-hearted indie rock has already enraptured audiences across Melbourne in 2019, highlighted by supporting San Cisco at a sold-out Alexander Theatre in April. Backed by his enigmatic band, Seb delivers an honest, inclusive and powerful live show designed to inspire.

2.45pm – 3.15pm: Speed Friending

It’s been tried and tested! GSA Speed Friending is the speediest way to make new friends at Grad Orientation! Each ‘mini-meet’ lasts only a few minutes, so you’ll get to know heaps of new students in the shortest possible time.  

3.30pm – 5pm: GSA Beginner’s Guide

Fancy your general knowledge? Time to put that to the test!  There are prizes to be won at GSA’s Trivia night during the Grad Orientation 

Thursday 4th March 2021

10.30am – 12pm: Q&A with GSA

A Virtual Drop In Session. You can ask us anything! What would you like to know about the GSA and what we have to offer you as students?

11.15am – 12pm: Rach Brennan live performance

There’s nothing better than the sound of live music, so why not tune in to hear Rach Brennan perform some tracks as you get started with your morning? Sounds great to me!

12pm – 1pm: GSA Employment Masterclass

Want to build your employability skills? Start the New Year right and attend the GSA Employment Masterclass! 

A group of expert panelists will be available to answer those questions you have not been able to get answers to yet, or offer you relevant advice. YOU decide the topics. YOU decide the questions. 

3pm – 6pm: Grad Groups Expo

What do you know about Grad Groups? What do you want to learn? Come to the expo and find out more!  

Meet some of GSA’s 140+ (TBC) grad clubs and societies, AKA Grad Groups, to find your tribe! 

6.30pm – 7.30pm: Dance Party

Put on your favourite dancing shoes (or socks, or slippers) and dance like no one cares! 

 

There are free coffees and vouchers to be given!
