Grad Orientation is GSA’s welcome for new students into Semester 2!

DAY 2 will be focused on providing support for your career and studies! It’s an opportunity to hear from Career Support partners in Careers and Employability and people2people and the support you can receive from the University of Melbourne in Library services and Research Computing Services.

Social events we’re running will be Pub Trivia, cook up a parma and ready up a drink and get ready to be quizzed! Speed Friending will be an opportunity for you to meet and mingle with other students! We’re also pleased to welcome back Miller!


10am – 11.45am: Career Support Presentations

Get the most out of your studies, by complimenting them with workshops, seminars and programs that will put you ahead when it is time to land that next dream job! Now is your chance to learn: – all about the workshops, training and seminars GSA offers to expand your work skill set – our Volunteer Program – the services offered by Careers and Employability – the benefits of networking and participating in the Univeristy’s mentoring program You can submit questions to events@gsa.unimelb.edu.au, or ask them on the day.

12pm – 12.45pm: Miller playing Facebook Live (Indie)

2pm – 3.15pm: Study Support Presentations

Whether you’re a coursework student, or starting your research – there is additional help to get you through. Join us to hear the ways GSA help foster a community and assist with with writing and motiviation, the immense resources offered by Library and Scholalry Services, where to get additional help with data, and the many workshops delivered to you. You can submit questions to events@gsa.unimelb.edu.au, or ask them on the day.

3pm – 3:45pm & 4:30pm – 5:15pm: Speed Friending

We may be back into lockdown, but that doesn’t mean you can’t meet new friends! Online Speed Friending is back with a twist: every attendee gets a prize at the end! You’ll receive a free coffee voucher valid for the coming week, so you can get a pick-me-up the next time you’re making a necessary trip out of the house. That ought to help you zoom after you Zoom.

Online Speed Friending: It’s like having coffee with friends, but with a lot more social distancing.

5:30pm – 6:30pm – Quiz Meisters Pub Trivia at home!

Think you are a trivia buff? It’s time to put that theory to the test!

Come meet other grad students, and battle it out for TRIVIA GLORY (and prizes) in a special session brought to you by pub trivia legends: Quiz Meisters.

How it works: You can register as an individual, or with up to four friends through our registration link. Students will be allocated into teams of five and you will be emailed your team prior to the event. One person from each team will be nominated as team captain, and be responsible for submitting the answer sheet (we will send this to you). You sign into Zoom on the night and prepare for fun! Good luck and, more importantly, HAVE FUN!

6pm – 6:45pm – Robbie and Grace playing Facebook Live (Jazz)

PRIZES: A huge number of events will include guaranteed prizes for attending – such as coffee and food vouchers – so keep your eye out for what you can win just for joining in the fun!
