The Returning Officer is Stephen Luntz and will be onsite in  the 1888 Building, room 198-1-101 , on  Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 1-5pm, from March 13 to April 14 (with the exception of public holidays)

Responsibilities and powers of Returning Officer

The Returning Officer:

  • is responsible for the conduct of each election;
  • may decide all matters not provided for in the Constitution or these Electoral Regulations;
  • and is subject only to the Electoral Tribunal.

The Returning Officer must decide questions of fact on the balance of probabilities.

Any decision of the Returning Officer may be appealed to the Electoral Tribunal in accordance with rule 13.5(e) of the Constitution.

UMGSA must provide the facilities, resources and assistance necessary to enable the Returning Officer to carry out the responsibilities set out in these Electoral Regulations

Powers of the Electoral Tribunal

The Electoral Tribunal has the power to:

  • make Electoral Regulations for the conduct of elections;
  • appoint a Returning Officer;
  • call elections;
  • hear appeals against the results of elections;
  • hear appeals of decisions of the Returning Officer;
  • declare results of elections; and
  • make regulation governing its own proceedings.
