As we return for 2020, GSA’s Council and staff want to express our great sorrow for the bushfires burning across Australia, and our sympathies for everyone who is affected. Our thoughts are especially with our graduate students and their families who have been impacted by the fires.

To contribute to the relief effort, GSA is collecting the following items to distribute to Koori communities in the East Gippsland region. Please drop off your donations to GSA’s Reception in the 1888 Building.

  • Gift cards: Woolworths, Coles, Target, and cards accepted by petrol stations
  • Toiletries: deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, razors, sanitary items, packaged soap, aftershave, toothbrushes, toothpaste
  • Baby goods: nappies, bottles, jars of baby food

Cash donations can be made through the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, set up by the Victorian Government.

We know that many students will be struggling both practically and emotionally with the devastating effects of the fires, and encourage anyone who needs it to seek help and support.

If you’re facing financial hardship, the University has grants, bursaries and interest-free loans available through Financial Aid.

The University’s Counselling and Psychological Services is also open for students to make appointments.
